Article 109
Article 109 is an international coalition doing something exciting: actively mobilizing governments to invoke Article 109 of the UN Charter—the provision that allows member states to call a General Conference to review and update the Charter. This is the very mechanism The Human Survival Project is working toward. Their coalition brings together former ambassadors and UN officials, seasoned campaigners, academics, and nearly 100 civil society organizations from around the world. World leaders from Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America have joined their call, alongside Nobel Laureates and heads of government past and present. Article 109 works primarily at the government and policy level—engaging diplomats, officials, and institutions. The Human Survival Project focuses on mobilizing everyday citizens around the world to demand change. These two efforts need each other.
